Favourite spots Aan het IJ
Amsterdam Noord unites art, innovation, and design in the most surprising and intriguing ways! A dynamic location in Amsterdam that has become irreplaceable for the city. Here we will share our favourite spots in Noord.
Café Modern
This former bank is home to one of the liveliest no-nonsense restaurants in the city. There’s no menu and the wines are beautifully uncomplicated. And what’s more: as of now, Café Modern has its own bakery where baker Florence Gramenade bakes sourdough bread. So from now on Café Modern is also the perfect place to enjoy a basic lunch or to buy bread to bring home.

A’DAM&Co.
At the top of the A’DAM Tower you’ll find private members’ club A’DAM&Co. – sanctuary of the creative elite of Amsterdam. If you’re familiar with the awe-inspiring cocktail bar in New York’s The Standard Hotel, you’ll feel right at home in members’ club A’DAM&Co. It should be noted that the only way to set foot inside is to become a member; members include innovative and creative minds such as architects, actors, advertising gurus, photographers, record label owners, museum directors, artists, and designers. The club is situated on the 18th floor of the A’DAM Tower, which used to be Shell’s head office. After a thorough renovation, it’s become a creative and musical place to be.

EYE Film Institute
The impressive building housing the film institute has put Noord on the map. This architectural tour de force was designed by the Austrian architectural firm Delugan Meissl. EYE exerts a powerful magnetism over passersby in the city, as if saying: ‘just cross over to here’. The design itself playfully combines shadows, light, lines of sight, idiosyncratic perspectives, the concepts of seeing and being seen. Indeed, it’s cinematic. In addition to hosting seven thousand film showings per year, EYE organises special activities. New parents hurry to Cinemini on Sunday mornings, night owls get down on the dance floor after the last showing to the tunes of a carefully selected band. But you can also enjoy a brunch, lunch, or dinner in the centrally located restaurant with its stunning view.

Chateau Noord
Amsterdam Noord even has its own vintner: Chateau Noord. Chateau Noord produces high-quality wine made of grapes from Spain, France, and Italy. Refrigerated trucks transport these grapes right after harvesting to this winery in Noord. Chateau Amsterdam is located on the site of ‘De Overkant’ (‘The Other Side’). You can just saunter into Chateau Noord to take a look around. Or to try a glass of wine, of course. They also organise wine tastings and even help you make your own wine. All that, right here in Amsterdam Noord!

A’DAM LOOKOUT
Fancy playing around on a swing set while you’re 100 meters above the ground? Head on over to A’DAM LOOKOUT, at the very top of the A’DAM Tower. Far below you can see the bustling crowds near the ferries, the rooftop of the Central Station, and further away still you can see Nemo. It’s like riding a rollercoaster: butterflies in your stomach, a bit of nausea, but all in a fun way. The swing is part of A’DAM LOOKOUT, which is located on the top two floors of the tower. The elevator transports you to 100 meters above the ground in only 22 seconds. Of course there’s an amazing view to enjoy, from the canals in the historical city centre to the polder landscape behind the city.
